Brandon Intermediate - Dare to be True

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Jonathan Viliamu passing away on Thursday August 5th, 2021.

Jonny was a man with soul - he was loved by all here at Brandon Intermediate, and the wider community.
Jonny just had that X factor when working with students – extremely talented with music, sports and our students needing extra learning support.
Jonny was kind, patient and funny - and he also had high expectations for the students, and himself.
He expected Brandon PRIDE at all times - second best just wasn’t good enough.
When you were in a sports team coached by Jonny - you had better bring your “A game”.
Rugby Union – boys and girls, Sevens, Ki o Rahi, Rugby League, Volleyball, Basketball – Jonny coached them all.
Same for the many musical groups that Jonny tutored over the years. He had a beautiful guitar style, plus the ability to draw out amazing harmonies from our talented students.
The many musical items that Jonny tutored would bring the house down – rapturous applause would fill the hall.
Jonny’s Jams are well known. Breakfast club hosted by Jonny wouldn’t be the same without Jonny’s Jams.
Songs such My Girl, R.E.S.P E.C.T and Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel – you get the idea!!
Students felt welcomed to school every morning ….. and loved.
One of my lasting memories will be of Jonny is -  if I asked Jonny to do a task.  He always responded – “ Hey …too easy”.
Jonny’s passing will leave a massive hole in our hearts, our school, and the community  -
- healing will be incredibly hard.
Kia Kaha, Kia maia, Kia Manawanui.
